Fairfield, Connecticut, August 13, 2010 - Fairfield Public Library is pleased to announce that it now offers the Mango Languages online language-learning system to its patrons.

Learn a new language now with Mango

Mango is free for all library patrons, and offers a fast and convenient solution for our community's increasing language-learning needs. Each lesson combines real life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions. The courses are presented with an appreciation for cultural nuance and real-world application that integrates components of vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and culture. Users learn actual conversation, breaking down complex conversational elements within an audio-visual framework that allows the user to draw important connections between pieces of information they have already learned.

Mango is available in two versions. One is Mango Complete, a 100-lesson course that is designed to provide a deep understanding of a language and its culture. It is available in nine foreign language and three ESL courses. The second is Mango Basic, which teaches everyday greetings, gratitudes, goodbyes and helpful phrases in a short period of time and is designed to appeal to a beginner in a new language. The courses, which require only two to five hours of time to complete, are currently available in 22 foreign languages and 15 English as a Second Language (ESL) courses.

Little PimThe library is also proud to announce Little Pim, an award-winning program designed specifically to introduce foreign languages to young children. The series is available in ten foreign languages (Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Hebrew, English/ESL (with Spanish or English subtitles), German, Russian and Arabic). The children's language program stars a lovable animated panda and features native speakers, excellent pacing, varied activities and great concept groupings to make the language learning process fun and easy.

"We are thrilled to add our library to the growing list of libraries across the country who have added Mango and Little Pim to their resources," said Susan Zuckerman, Reference Librarian. "Some people need to learn a second language for business or travel reasons. Others just want to because they think it would be interesting. No matter the reason, learning the language should be fun. With Mango, it definitely is. For our younger patrons, the Little Pim series offers a very effective tool to learn a new language at an early age."
