How can I create a NetLibrary account?
- Click on the eAudiobook link on our home page
- Enter your library card number.
- Click on the “Create a free account” in the top right corner of the page.
- Enter a user name, password, your name, and e-mail address.
- Select the submit button.
What internet browser should I use?
If you have problems downloading, NetLibrary technical support can assist most users configure their internet browser to accept downloads. However, most problems are encountered with AOL, Compuserve, and MSN Microsoft Network. NetLibrary support can be reached at 1-800-848-5800.
How can I check out and download a netLibrary eAudiobook?
1. From our catalog--
Select an eAudiobook and click on the “Chain” icon (on the right-hand side), and log in with your library card. You will be linked to the title in eAudiobook collection. Click on “Download this eAudiobook.” Select the quality of the audiobook.* Then login with your user name and password and proceed to download the file. It is highly recommended that you save the file on your personal computer in a directory of your choice (otherwise you may have difficulty locating the file later.)
If a pop up does not prompt you to choose a file location, you may have to right click on the download link in order to specify where you want the file saved. You MUST open the audiobook file in Windows Media Player before disconnecting your internet connection or you will be prompted to log in the first time you attempt to open the audiobook file. You are then granted a license to listen to the audiobook for 21 days. See “How Can I Open and Play the eAudiobook?”
2. From NetLibrary-
Select the eAudiobook you want and click on “Download this eAudiobook.” Select the quality of the audiobook.* Login with your user name and password, if you have not logged in already, then proceed to download your file. You must save the file on your personal computer in a directory of your choice or you will have to download the file each time you want to listen to it. * CD quality is necessary to transfer the eAudiobook onto a portable listening device.
It is recommended that you do not play the file while it is downloading.
How can I open and play the eAudiobook?
Using Windows Media Player, version 9 or higher (free Windows Media Player download) open the eAudiobook file. You MUST open the audiobook file before disconnecting your internet connection or you will be prompted to log in the first time you attempt to open the audiobook file. At this point, you are granted a license to listen to the eAudiobook for 21 days.
You can listen to your eAudiobook on your computer or you can transfer it to an MP3 portable device by using the ‘copy’ or ‘transfer’ option within the media player. Do not download an eAudiobook directly to the portable device.
How many eAudiobooks can I check out at one time?
You can check out 10 eAudiobooks at one time.
For how long can I check out a NetLibrary eAudiobook?
You can check out a NetLibrary eAudiobook for 21 days, after which the file will “time out.” The file will still be on your computer or portable device, but it will not be playable. You can delete the file.
Can I renew a NetLibrary eAudiobook?
After 21 days, the eAudiobook will “time out” when the license expires. The title can be renewed once from the NetLibrary web site without having to download the file again. First, delete the eAudiobook from your MP3 device. Click on the “Renew your checkout for 21 days” link from the eAudiobook’s download page. A new license will be issued to you. Then, you can again transfer the eAudiobook to your portable device.
Can I place a hold on a NetLibrary eAudiobook?
If a title is “checked out,” you will see a message that the item is in use when to try to download it. Input your email address when prompted to receive an email when the title is available.
How long will it take to download an eAudiobook title?
Listeners have a choice of “radio-quality” sound or “CD-quality” sound. With a cable connection, a 10 hour book takes approximately 13 minutes to download in “CD-quality”, or 3 minutes for “radio-quality.” With dial-up, a 10-hour book takes approximately 6 hours to download in “CD-quality” or 1 hour for “radio-quality”.
Only CD-quality can be transferred to a portable device.
Can I download and listen to eAudiobooks on Library computers?
No. You cannot download or listen to eAudiobooks on any of the Library’s computers.
Can I burn an eAudiobook to CD?
No. If you copy an eAudiobook to CD, it will not play.
What MP3 or portable devices are compatible with eAudiobooks?
In choosing an MP3 player, storage capacity is an important consideration. The “average” size of an eAudiobook is 175-210 megabytes. A list of compatible devices may be found at the following web address: http://support.oclc.org/Resolutions/TestedPlayers.pdf
Can I listen to an eAudiobook in my car?
Yes, eAudibooks loaded on MP3 players can be played on car radios using a separate Radio Frequency FM transmitter device, a cassette adaptor, or through a car’s existing MP3 jack.
