INTERNET POLICY Nature of the Internet: The Fairfield Public Library has no control of the Internet and its resources, and assumes no responsibility for the quality, accuracy or currency of any Internet resource. The Internet may contain material that users find objectionable, offensive or controversial. The Library assumes no responsibility for any damages, direct or indirect, arising from its connections to the Internet. Ethical Use: Internet computers may only be used for legal purposes. Unacceptable uses include, but are not limited to: harassment of other users; libeling or slandering other users; destruction of or damage to equipment, software or data belonging to the library or other users; changing the library’s setup of software or hardware; disruption or unauthorized monitoring of electronic communications; unauthorized copying of copyright-protected material; viewing or downloading of pornographic or potentially offensive information and images, text, videos or sounds. Misuse or abuse of the library’s computers will result in a warning and a one month suspension of Internet privileges. A second violation may lead to a permanent loss of Internet privileges. Staff Assistance: Staff provides limited assistance for basic start up procedures, but the user is expected to work independently. Time Limits: Time limits will be determined by each department. After 15 minutes, late arrivals will forfeit the remaining time. Patrons who have signed up will bump those who have not. Printing or Downloading to Disc Printing is $.10 per sheet. Discs may be purchased at the Information Desk for $1. Email: The library does not provide electronic mail accounts. Access Restriction of a child’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or guardian; the library does not act in the place of the parent. In the children’s libraries usage is limited to children and their adults or for child-focused information. In the children’s libraries a software program limits access.
