Dear Fairfielders:
Please join us for our sixth annual One Book, One Town celebration. This year we are inviting you and your family to embrace reading and books by honoring one book in particular, Wonder by R.J. Palacio.
As in years past, we’ve done our best to choose a book that will bring us together as a community in a special way. Books have such tremendous power when it comes to uniting us as a group. A book can be the launching point of great conversation, creating a common ground where none existed before.
Fairfield faced certain challenges in 2012 by coming together, offering support and aid to those hit hardest not only within town lines, but those of our neighbors who were suffering as well. We learned firsthand the reward of banding together to help people with their struggles. In Wonder, you’ll meet August Pullman, a brave young man who unknowingly unites his community by overcoming near insurmountable obstacles just by doing something so ordinary – going to school. As you read on, you’ll discover what it is that makes Auggie so special. You’ll meet his friends and family who remind us over and over again that incredible things can happen when we take a minute to see people for who they really are – and by always opting to choose kindness.
