LONG
RANGE PLAN
2001 –2006
Part
7 - Making It Real - The Library Responds
After
studying the ideas of the six focus groups, the Long Range
Plan committee with the assistance of many Library staff members
responded by developing two major themes which will guide
the Library in meeting the town’s emerging needs during the
next five years.
Theme
I - The Community Hub
The
first of these themes is The Community Hub. This theme
with its associated goals, objectives and activities has been
developed to increase the Library’s effectiveness by providing
adequate physical facilities and worthwhile activities for
the public.
Goals
1. Carry
out a major renovation project at the main library.
2.
Attract residents to the Library by providing meeting rooms
and programs to meet growing demand.
3. Adapt
certain areas of the branch library to new uses.
4. Introduce
new resources and activities for teens.
Theme
II: Fostering Skills for Lifelong Learning
The
second theme is Fostering Skills for Lifelong Learning.
This theme with its associated goals, objectives and activities
has been developed to promote reading and the primacy of the
written word. Fairfield Public Library will serve as
the parents’ partner in developing the reading habit in children.
The library will provide resources which support self-directed
personal growth and development for youth and adults.
Goals
1. Provide
access to a broad collection of useful library materials in
good condition.
2. Provide
up-to-date information technology, as well as training opportunities
and assistance for library users.
3. Provide
environments within the libraries conducive to reading, quiet
study, tutoring and exploration of technology.
4. Hire,
train and retain a highly skilled and friendly staff with
strong customer service orientation.
